L’Anse Council Hears Village Christmas Plans

L’Anse is finalizing this year’s community Christmas celebration.

At last night’s village council meeting, councilor Leann Davis said the Light Up Baraga County event will be held December 10th. Current plans are for Santa to visit the fire hall at 3:00. The parade will begin at 5:00, and will be followed by the lighting of the village Christmas tree and carol singing at Waterfront Park. Details will be confirmed soon.

The council began looking forward toward a couple of big projects. Members of the fire department are developing plans to replace their 24-year-old ladder truck. A new emergency generator is needed to help keep the sewer system running. The two presently in use date back to 1978, and repair parts are no longer available.

Village president Ron Ervast closed the meeting by saluting outgoing council member James Hulkonen. Hulkonen was not returned to office in last week’s election. He will be replaced by William T. Menge.
