One of Michigan’s longest-serving county road commissioners is stepping down.
Roy Koski joined the Baraga County Road Commission in 1984. At last night’s county board meeting, commissioners received his letter of retirement, and accepted it with regret.
Koski’s son, Steve, was appointed to fill out the final three years of Roy’s six-year term.
Among county road commissioners in Michigan, only Gratiot County’s Wesley Federspiel has served longer.
The Baraga County Board made several other appointments at last night’s meeting. Cathy Wadaga and Courtney Jones will join the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. Mary Deline and Carol LaPointe will join the Baraga County Extended Care Corporation Board of Trustees.
The board heard an update from the Keweenaw Land Trust about its activities on the Abbaye Peninsula.
Project manager Pat Toczydlowski told commissioners that they have finished removing the fence at the Huron Bay Field Station. The 10-foot-tall barrier had been installed by a previous property owner, who operated a hunting preserve…
Toczydlowski said they’re working with the DNR to develop a plan for the property, which will likely include some hunting trails through areas designed to attract game species.
