HANCOCK, MI (December 14, 2016) – Keweenaw Young Professionals (KYP) is seeking nominations to fill four positions on their board of directors for 2017.

New Board Members will help set the direction for programming and include a President Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, and a General Board Member. KYP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that strives to offer opportunities for young professionals to connect and grow through community engagement.

Kyp is organized and operated 100% by a volunteer board of up to eleven members.  This team meets monthly and works together to plan organization events, designs marketing, writes grants for community projects, host fundraisers and seek out  opportunities to collaborate for special events.

New Board Members will have an opportunity to develop leadership skills, create personal & business relationships and become confident when interacting with other community organizations, nonprofits and local leaders.

2016 brought many firsts that KYP is proud to share. These include:

  • Established 501(c)3 Nonprofit status

  • Implemented a membership and sponsorship plan

  • Hosted collaborative event with Marquette’s 40 Below and Upper Edge of Escanaba

  • Planned two successful Murder Mystery events with The Calumet Players, Inc.

“KYP has helped me develop as a local professional in many ways,” shares outgoing President, Amanda McConnon. “I have learned how to effectively run a meeting, have become efficient at planning collaborative events and established relationships with many leaders in our community.”

Open board positions include the following:

PRESIDENT ELECT.  The President Elect will perform the duties of the president in the president’s absence and it is expected that the president elect will succeed the president in the next term. Duties will include assisting in creating and distributing meeting agendas prior to meetings and assisting in planning organization events.

SECRETARY. The Secretary sends notices of board meetings, manages correspondence of the board, maintain documents, and additional duties as needed.

TREASURER.  The Treasurer will be in charge of maintaining the organization’s funds, supervising and updating the accounting and provide updates on the financial condition of the organization at meetings.

BOARD MEMBER. All Board members will assist in planning and participate in organization events, attend monthly board meetings and volunteer to assist additionally for tasks as they are available.

Board nominations will be reviewed by the KYP Nomination Committee, and selected Board Members will be announced at the KYP 2017 Kickoff taking place at the Superior Room of Magnuson Hotel, on Saturday,  January 14th, 2017 beginning at 5:00 PM.
