Keweenaw Young Professionals Calls For Board Of Director Nominees

HANCOCK, MI (October 17, 2017) – The Keweenaw Young Professionals (KYP) Board of Directors is seeking nominations to fill five board positions for 2018. Motivated individuals who want to grow both personally and professionally and be more connected to the community are encouraged to submit nominations.

KYP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers opportunities for young professionals to connect and grow through community engagement. The group has organized over 55 social events and more than 40 volunteering and educational events since 2013. New board members have the opportunity to share their talents and interests to shape the planning of future events and initiatives.

The group is organized and operated by a volunteer board of up to eleven members. This team meets monthly and works together to organize events, develop marketing and communications, write grants for community projects, host fundraisers and seek out opportunities to collaborate for special events.

New KYP Board Members will have an opportunity to develop leadership skills and create personal and professional relationships.

“I’ve created relationships with many young professionals, community organizations, and local leaders during my time with KYP,” observes outgoing President, Devin Leonarduzzi. “As new members join the board, I look forward to mentoring them and connecting them to the community.”

Open board positions include:

PRESIDENT ELECT: (Three year term – President Elect for one year, President for one year, and General Board Member for one year). Lead the board in alignment with KYP mission, represent KYP in community collaborations, prepare board meeting agendas, run monthly meetings, oversee and assist with the organization and marketing of events.

SECRETARY: (one year term as Secretary, up to two additional years as General Board Member) – Responsible for taking notes at monthly Board of Directors meetings, assist President and President Elect with scheduling calendar events, writing meeting agendas and creating newsletters.

TREASURER: (one year term as Treasurer, up to two additional years as General Board Member) – Manage bank account, track cash flow documents, pay invoices, track reimbursements, report on finances at monthly meetings.

GENERAL BOARD MEMBER: (maximum three years term) Contribute your talents to the organization, plan events, assist with communications and marketing (social media, newsletters, website), help steer the organization, create relationships with other community organizations, attract new membership and sponsorship.

Nominations will be reviewed by the KYP Nomination Committee and selected Board Members will be announced at the KYP 2018 Kickoff taking place at the Downtowner Lounge Banquet Room on Saturday, January 20th, 2018 beginning at 5:00 PM.
