Keweenaw Residents Appointed to State Boards

Two Copper Country residents have been appointed to state boards by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Ryan Laporte, of Houghton, will serve on the Michigan Trails Advisory Council. Laporte  is the operations manager for Northern Hardwoods, and the president of the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club. He will represent offroad vehicle owners and U.P. residents on the council, replacing Donald Kauppi of Copper Harbor, who has resigned.

Lindsay Hiltunen, of Baraga, will continue to serve on Michigan’s Historical Records Advisory Board.

Hiltunen is an archivist at Michigan Tech. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has reappointed her to the board, to serve through 2026.

The Historical Records Advisory Board serves as a central advisory body for historical records planning, and for projects in Michigan funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
