The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge will be put up for auction this summer.
At a special meeting of the Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners on Monday, the board decided to hold on auction of the historic lodge on July 26th.
Maas Companies of Rochester, Minnesota will conduct the auction.
There will be no required minimum bid at the auction in order to maximize the chance that the Mountain Lodge will sell.
Bidders will be required to bid for the Mountain Lodge “as is” with no financing or other contingencies.
Net proceeds from the sale will be shared with Rural Development and Economic Development and any unpaid balance of the Rural Development revenue bond debt will be cancelled.
This means the county’s obligation to repay the Economic Development grants will be satisfied.
The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge will open as usual this year with Harvey Desnick returning as the coordinator.
The County will operate the lodge this season until the winning bidder becomes the new owner.
The winning bidder will be required to honor existing reservations through the end of the current season.
