Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Closes Non-Essential Tribal Government Offices and Casinos

In more efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has decided to temporarily close non-essential Tribal Governmental offices, along with both of the Ojibwa Casinos in Baraga and Marquette, through April 12th.

The decision comes after the community’s Tribal Council met with public health officials on the federal, state and tribal level.

Keweenaw Bay Indian Community President Warren Swartz said “It has become clear that the Coronavirus disease can have drastic impacts, but the community is taking bold measures to protect the health of every member of the community. We can proactively work to stop the spread of the disease, and we will continue to work with leaders at every level moving forward. The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is monitoring the ongoing crisis and is prepared to take aggressive steps to ensure the health of the community is protected.”
