KBIC Tribal Council Elects New President

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has a new leader.

At its organizational meeting Saturday, the Tribal Council elected 14-year member Doreen Blaker as its new president. Blaker succeeds Kim Klopstein, who served one year in the position.

The council certified the results of last month’s election, and swore in members Austin Ayres, Edward Edwards, Everett Ekdahl, Jr., and Rodney Loonsfoot, along with re-elected Associate Judge Violet Friisvall Ayres.

Toni Minton will take over the vice-president’s job from Susan Lafernier. Liz Julio will fill Minton’s former job as secretary, and Ayres will replace Randall Haataja as treasurer.
