The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is receiving $1.4 million dollars from the federal government to help improve services to victims of crimes.
$505,795 is coming from the Tribal set-aside portion of the federal Crime Victims Fund. It’s one of 113 grants handed out nationwide, totaling nearly $113 million.
An additional $900,000 is being received from the Office on Violence Against Women. That money will be used to supplement efforts to combat domestic violence. The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians is also receiving $251,841 from that program.
