KBIC Announces Six-Month Disbursements

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community has authorized $139,372.65 in distributions to local units of government in Baraga County.

The money represents two percent of the slot machine revenues at the Baraga Casino over the past six months.

The Baraga Area School District gets the largest grant, at a little over $41,000. Baraga County will receive around $34,000, and the L’Anse Area Schools will get around $20,000. Other recipients include Baraga and L’Anse Townships, the villages of Baraga and L’Anse, the Baraga village fire department, and Bay Ambulance.

An additional eight percent of slot revenue is turned over to the state government, as part of the casino’s operating agreement.

You can see the full distribution list for both the Baraga and Marquette casinos here.
