Juhannus Summer Celebration Begins Today

Finlandia University’s Juhannus mid-summer festival begins tonight.

The opening reception for the kickoff of the Finnish American Folk School will start at 7:00 at the Finnish American Heritage Center.

Clare Zuraw from the Folk School says it highlights an exhibit, with contributions from local artists, and two special contributors…

An expert rug weaver, Wynne Mattila, who’s got some great rugs that are gonna be in the exhibit, and musician Sara Pajunen actually composed a piece that will be installed in the gallery that includes a lot of submissions from community members.

The reception will include presentations by Pajunen and Finlandia’s Dr. Hilary-Joy Virtanen.

Activities continue throughout the week, and conclude with the Juhannus bonfire Saturday evening at Agate Beach. See the full schedule here.
