Jam At The Dam

Summertime in the Keweenaw is a time of celebration and this weekend, music is the main attraction in Calumet.  The two day Dam Jam music festival is set to take place Friday and Saturday featuring three stages of live music.  Tunes and tents are what you’ll find at the Calumet Lions Park this weekend as Team Same Team prepares for the festivities.

“We’ve got music coming in from all over the Midwest and other parts of the country. Erik Koskinen is headlining on Saturday,” said Festival Organizer Josh Mortti.  Gates open at 3:00 pm on Friday with a discounted ticket price prior to that time.

The event is sponsored by Houghton Community Broadcasting and ABC-10 and features over 20 musical acts that will be performing over the weekend with Conge Se Menne as Friday’s headliner. Their set list includes the local favorite, “Guess who’s coming to sauna.”

Saturday features a full line up with the gates opening at 11:00 am and Erik Koskinen as the headliner in the evening.  Other acts performing include: Stormy Chromer, Lumi, and the Copper Country Clown Band just to name a few. A full list can be found at www.damjamUP.com.

New to the festival this year is camping, which is included in the ticket price.  Mortti said, “Come on up. Bring your tent and have a real good time.”

Early bird tickets are $30 for the entire weekend, or $35 at the gate for the weekend pass. Individual day passes are also available.   “Tickets can be purchased at Harter’s Party Store in Calumet or Root Notes in Laurium, or you can get them online at www.damjamUP.com. We have Friday and Saturday tickets available. Friday is only $15.00, Saturday is only $20.00, or you can get the whole weekend for $35,” said Mortti.

Saturday’s admission price will be waived if patrons choose to donate $20 in non perishable food items. Those goods will go to the New Beginnings Angel Mission, who will forward them to area families in need.

Other activities include an arts and crafts show, food vendors and children’s activities as well.
