Jail Task Force To Split Up

The Houghton County Jail Task Force continues to look at options to solve the jail overcrowding issue.

Commissioner Tom Tikkanen shared his concerns about the need for facilities in the county for the mental health treatment of inmates.

The Board of Commissioners also discussed the need to divide up those on the task force so they can address different jail options.

Commissioner Gretchen Janssen explained that the public should approach members of the task force that represents their area to provide input.

County Administrator Eric Forsberg said they would publish the list of task force members along with email addresses so they can be contacted.

The next meeting of the Jail Task Force is Monday, July 8th at 6:00pm in the Houghton County Circuit Courtroom.
