Independence Day Celebrations Planned

Fireworks displays, parades and community festivals will mark Independence Day weekend across the region.

Here are some of the planned celebrations (follow links for full schedules and more details).

Ahmeek – Monday – at Gabe Chopp Park
 • 11:00 – Kids parade 
 • Noon – Kids games
 • 2:00 – Live music by the Wingnuts
 • 2:00 – Bingo
 • 6:00 Raffle Drawing (purchase tickets from any Ahmeek firefighter)

Baraga Lumberjack Days. Additional activities will take place at Baraga State Park.

Bruce Crossing – The “Star Spangled Everything” celebration will include:
 • Friday: Movie night at the Stannard Township Park, featuring Dumbo and The Sandlot.
 • Saturday:
  – 11:00 to 1:00 – Lions’ Club chicken dinner
  – 11:00 to 5:00 – Vendors in the park
  – 2:00 – Parade, with awards for best floats
  – 3:00 to 10:00 – kids’ games, music at the pavilion, refreshments, co-ed softball tournament
  – 10:45 (dusk) – Fireworks.

Copper Harbor – Monday
 • 10:00 – Parade, followed by activities in Donny Kilpela Memorial Park
 • Dusk – Fireworks over the bay

Dollar Bay
• Sunday
– 7:00-Midnight – Street Dance with Rewind
• Monday
– 10:30 – Chicken Barbecue opens
– Noon – Parade, followed by family games.

Gay – Monday
• 1:00 to 3:00 – The historic Gay Schoolhouse will be open all afternoon. The fire and rescue department will have an open house. The Auxiliary will have its big July 4th sale. Enjoy the notorious Gay parade.

Greenland – Saturday
• Activities will include the walk/roll/run, and kickball and cornhole tournaments. The parade will begin at noon, and will be followed by kids games, concessions, a raffle, and local musicians performing in the park. Night Screamer will play during the evening, with fireworks at dusk.

Hubbell – Monday
 • Parade – 10:30
 • Food – 12:00 at Hubbell Park
 • Sports Program – 1:00 at Hubbell Park
 • Raffles and 50/50 Drawing – 1:00 at Hubbell Park

Lake Linden
• Sunday
 – 6:00 – Vendors and refreshments in the park, live music from Slick Nickel
 – Dusk – Fireworks at the park
• Monday
 – 9:30 – Grand Patriotic Parade. After the parade, vendors, refreshments, live music, kids games and races, and grandstand events at the park
 – 1:00 – Veterans Memorial Service
 – 3:00 – Park vendors close
 – 6:30 – Bicycle parade

Michigamme – Friday through Monday – A four-day celebration will combine Independence Day activities with the Michigamme’s sesquicentennial celebration. See the full schedule of events here.

Skanee – Sunday
• The parade lines up at 1:00 at the county garage, and begins at 1:30

South Range – Monday
 • 8:00 – Flag Raising Ceremony
 • 8:00 to 4:00 – Flea Market/Craft Show – $20 vendor fee – register in advance at village hall, the South Range Pub, or at 482-3563
 • 10:00 to  4:00 – Old South Range Photo Gallery 
 • 10:30 – Cornhole Tournament – $10 entry fee – register in advance at southrangepub.com or 523-5161
 • 11:00 to 4:00 – Fun in the Park (lower baseball field)
 • 11:30 – Children’s Races (upper baseball field)
 • 12:00 to 2:00 – Keweenaw Brewing Co. Tours and Sampling
 • 1:00 to 3:00 – Copper Range Historical Museum Tours
 • 1:00 – Parade Line up (elementary school)
 • 2:00 – Parade – $200 1st place, $150 2nd place, $100 3rd place, $150 Most Patriotic
 • 3:30 – Chris Hiltunen Memorial Horseshoe Tournament
 • 4:00 to 9:00 – Live Music on Main Street – Lightning Ridge 4:00-6:00; Split Shyft 6:00-9:00
 • 9:00 – Raffle Drawing on Main Street
 • Dusk – Fireworks

Tapiola – Saturday
 • 10:30 – Parade, followed by vendors, kids games, and a raffle for $500 worth of firewood.

Trap Rock Valley – Monday
 • 11:00 – Parade (begins at the north end of Angman Road). No politicians are allowed, and no commercial advertising. The parade grand Marshall  is 97-year-young WW II veteran Joe Enrietti, who served as a B-24 bomber tail gunner.

Trout Creek – Monday
 • 9:00 to 1:00 – Museum open
 • 10:00 – Lawnmower parade
