Incumbents Lead Field in KBIC Primary

Incumbents ruled the day at Saturday’s Keweenaw Bay Indian Community primary election.

In the Baraga District, Tribal Council member Doreen Blaker led the field with 142 votes. Fellow council member Robert D. “R.D.” Curtis, Jr. had 74. They’ll be joined on the general election ballot by Sue Ellen “Suzie” Elmblad, who collected 67 votes, and Larry Denomie, III, who garnered 49. Donald L. Chosa finished out of the running, with 38 votes.

The primary is designed to winnow the field to four candidates for the two positions that will be available in each of the Baraga and L’Anse districts in the general election.

No primary was needed in the L’Anse districts.

Results remain unofficial until they are certified by the Tribal Council.
