An Illinois woman died in a snowmobile crash Wednesday afternoon in Gogebic County.
Michigan State Police troopers from the Wakefield Post and other first responders were called out around 5:00 Central Time to Trail One in Marenisco Township.
They discovered that 60-year-old Cindy Zinaveah from Antioch, Illinois, had lost control of her sled while trying to make a turn. The snowmobile left the trail, and became airborne after cresting a snowbank, throwing Zinaveah into a number of trees.
Attempts to save her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. She is the 16th snowmobile fatality in Michigan this winter.
A state police investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
