Houghton’s Budget & Capital Improvement Plan Approved

The 2018/19 Budget for the City of Houghton is now approved.

The City Council passed the $3.6 million balanced budget at their regular meeting Wednesday.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said, by and large, most of the funds do not have any significant departures from previous incomes or expenses.

The city will continue to levy its 15 mills and tax revenue is expected to be up by about two percent.

The Houghton City Council also approved the Capital Improvement Plan for 2018-2024.

Waara said there were some updates to the previous plan but because the city is working on its Master Plan, changes were kept to a minimal.

Additional changes would likely be made next year after the city adopts the new Master Plan.

Details on the 2018/19 Budget and 2018-2024 Capital Improvement Plan can be found on the City of Houghton website or by contacting the City Center at 906-482-1700.
