The City of Houghton will proceed with purchasing some new equipment.
A federal Rural Development loan program is contributing $199,900 toward the cost of a police vehicle, two dump trucks, a wheel loader, a skid steer loader, and an excavator thumb.
The grant from the program designed to assist flood-damaged areas will cover 37 percent of the total cost. The remainder will come from the city’s equipment fund.
At last night’s meeting, councilors approved the final payment for the Dee Stadium shower and locker room renovation. That $205,000 project has wrapped up.
City manager Eric Waara told the council that most of the city’s summer paving projects have concluded, and that the recent Lake Superior Performance Rally finish in downtown Houghton went smoothly.
