Houghton to Consider Variance for Proposed Dunkin’ Doughnuts

Tonight’s Houghton City Council meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the city’s Zoning Board of Appeals.

The board will consider a request for setback variances for the parcel on Memorial Drive which, for many years, was the home of the Hardee’s restaurant.

Dairyland Operations, LLC, plans to demolish the present building, and replace it with a smaller structure that would house a Dunkin’ Doughnuts franchise.

A public hearing on the request will begin at 5:30 at the City Center. The Board of Appeals could decide on the request immediately thereafter.

The regular city council meeting will follow. Agenda items include discussion and potential acceptance of bids for the sale of $1.5 million in bonds to help finance the demolition of the big downtown parking deck, and a discussion about Open Meetings Act issues.
