Houghton to Christen Pier at Fall Fest Saturday

The City of Houghton will celebrate its new waterfront pier Saturday.

The long-awaited project will be saluted with a Fall Fest, with autumnal activities for the whole family.

Those who attend can take a tractor ride along the Portage waterfront, press apple cider, pick out a pumpkin for Halloween, taste hot apple cider and freshly made donuts, and listen to live music.

Activities will extend up the hill to Shelden Avenue, where many downtown businesses will offer fall specials.

The festival is a collaboration between the City of Houghton, Visit Keweenaw, and Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce.

The pier is expected to serve as a community gathering place and space for local events and festivals. The ribbon-cutting will take place at 11:00, and the festival will continue until 3:00.
