The city of Houghton will participate in the state of Michigan’s Redevelopment Ready Communities Program.
As part of the program, Houghton will follow six best practices set by the state for progressive communities.
Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said some of those practices the city would have to focus on but others they have been doing all along.
Best practices include Community Plans and Public Outreach, looking at Zoning Regulations as part of the Master Plan process, having a Development Review process, Recruitment and Education, Redevelopment Ready Sites and Community Prosperity.
Waara said participation in the program goes a long way in getting approval for grants.
