The Houghton Skatepark is set to officially open this weekend at the East Houghton Waterfront Park.
A grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Friday at 6:00pm at the park, located just west of the Super 8 hotel in Houghton.
The project is the result of a grassroots effort to provide an outdoor skatepark for local residents.
After successfully raising $200,000, construction on the park began last summer but poor weather and lingering effects of the Father’s Day Flood delayed the completion of the project until this year.
Skaters have already been using the park, which is being provided to the pubic for use free of charge.
