Plans are underway for the city of Houghton to have a downtown skatepark open by next summer.
The contract to build the park was awarded to Spawn Ranch of Los Angeles, California and construction is set to begin in the spring.
City manager Eric Waara says that a public hearing will be scheduled at a later date to allow input from skaters, cyclists, and other park users before the park is designed.
This will allow the park to be built with all of its users in mind.
Construction of the park will begin in May and is expected to be completed by the weekend of Bridgefest, which also happens to be the same weekend as National Skating Day.
