Houghton Residents Do Not Need Bin To Recycle

Plastic bins are not needed to participate in curbside recycling in Houghton.

The city had made the containers available while supplies last at the City Center for only $10.

However, Houghton City Manager Eric Waara says Waste Management will pick up the recyclables in any container as long as they can see what’s in it.

Waara said the first week of the new system went fairly well, with about two tons worth of recyclables picked up, and that amount is expected to grow.

Residents should be aware that the routes have changed for the new system so their usual pick-up time may have also changed.
