Houghton Reminds Residents Of City’s Water Let-Run Policy

The city of Houghton is notifying residents about their policies to prevent water pipes from freezing.

Customers who have experienced a pipe freeze in the past are to contact the city water department (482-1700, cleo@cityofhoughton.com) to notify the city of the date that you start running your water.

Customers running their water can get a maximum credit of 700 cubic feet of water for January, February and March, which currently amounts to just under $70 per year.

Customers will receive their water running credit on the billing cycle for the month of April, which are mailed in May.

City Manager Eric Waara recently said though there have been a few water pipe freeze ups this year…those were mainly confined to above ground pipes inside the home that were in areas not receiving enough heat.
