For the third year in a row, Houghton has been named a top 10 hockey city in America.
The hometown of the Michigan Tech Huskies checked in at No. 6 this year.
SmartAsset, a personal finance technology company headquartered in New York, released its third annual rankings this week.
The 2017 study analyzed the 118 cities and towns with NHL, American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League or NCAA Division I men’s hockey teams using metrics such as attendance as a percentage of stadium capacity, local crime rates, median household income, median monthly housing costs and Google search traffic for the term “hockey.”
Houghton was ranked No. 3 in 2016 and No. 5 in 2015.
It is one of only four cities to be ranked in the top 10 all three years of SmartAsset’s ranking.
