Houghton Police Get New Protective Vests

Houghton Police officers will be getting upgrade to their safety.

Chief John Donnelly said the department has received a 50-50 matching grant for new protective vests.

The officers will be fitted for the vests Thursday, with some choosing vests that will go under their uniforms and other wearing an outer vest.

Donnelly said the vests are a vital part of the uniform and expire every five years.
