The Houghton city planning commission is expected to continue its discussion about the fate of the big parking deck tonight.
The decision has been made to tear the aging facility down. City officials hope to make a decision about how to pay the $1 million removal cost by the end of the summer. That will likely include financing the demolition and basic rehab of the property by selling bonds.
Once the deck is down, debate will begin in earnest about what will be done with the land. Discussions also continue with downtown Houghton businesses that will be negatively affected by the deck’s removal.
Tonight’s planning commission meeting will begin at 5:30 at the City Center. See meeting information here.
