Houghton Planning Commission Mulls Plants, Animals and Food Trucks; City Council Meets Tonight

With three members absent, the Houghton city planning commission took no action on agenda items last evening.

Conversations will continue about several issues.

The city is reviewing the food truck ordinance it adopted in 2018. Officials are discussing plants and animals, after having received questions and comments about residents raising chickens, goats and bees, and planting pollination gardens and clover lawns.

The commission will meet again July 26th.

The full city council will convene this evening. Tonight’s agenda includes consideration of salaries for non-union employees for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Most will receive three percent increases.

A public hearing will be held on the proposed ordinance that would modify the Downtown Development Authority Plan to include the demolition of the big parking deck, and the redevelopment of that space. The ordinance is scheduled to be voted on at the council’s next meeting, in July.

Council members will also consider selling some excess city equipment.

Tonight’s session begins at 5:30 at the City Center.
