Houghton is in the Top 10 Hockey Towns in America, according to a study done by SmartAsset.com.
The home of the Huskies came in at number 7 on their list, behind Ann Arbor as the only other Michigan city.
The website says they crunched data reflective of fan intensity and quality of life to find the best hockey towns in the country.
They looked at attendance rate, percent of population attending games and Google trends data for the term “hockey.”
The quality of life factors include unemployment rate, crime rates and dining and entertainment establishment data.
Houghton was noted for having an average attendance at a Michigan Tech hockey game of 3,000, though there are only 8,000 residents in the city.
According to Google data, residents search the term “hockey” about as much as they Google the term “food,” a sign of the city’s passion for hockey.
Smart Asset says another plus to living here is the home affordability with a median home costing only $730 per month.
This is the fourth year of the study and all four years, Grand Forks, North Dakota has topped the list.
