Houghton Man Killed In Snowmobile Accident

A Houghton man was killed when his snowmobile collided with a vehicle.

The Michigan State Police Calumet Post says troopers were dispatched around 4:20pm Thursday to an accident on Lake Annie Road and Trail #3 in Franklin Township.

Troopers say 63-year-old Timothy Young was traveling south on the trail and failed to yield while crossing the road. He then was struck by a 2001 Subaru driven by 21-year-old Stephen Wright of Atlantic Mine.

Lifesaving efforts were performed by responders on Young at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wright was not injured in the crash.

Speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by Mercy Ambulance, Hancock Police Department, and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
