Work at Kestner Waterfront Park is expected to be completed in time for Bridgefest.
The update was given to the Houghton City Council by City Manager Eric Waara at their regular meeting Wednesday.
If the grass in some areas is not ready, Waara said they would rope those areas off during the official kick-off of summer celebration, which is being held in conjunction with Relay for Life at the park the same weekend.
The Lakeshore Drive project has been delayed due to the recent weather and now with Memorial Day weekend upon us, will get going next week.
Work is expected to take until August.
Several businesses in downtown Houghton will get a partial facelift thanks to a series of façade grants.
The city council approved the recommendations from the Downtown Development Authority at their regular meeting Wednesday.
A total of $15,000 in grants were awarded.
Recipients include $3,500 for Hunan Garden and Center Ice Skate, $2,000 for the Downtowner Lounge and Swift Hardware, $1,400 for Apple Blossom Mercantile, $1,350 for Surplus Outlet and $1,260 for WUPPDR.
Public hearings were set for June 14th to hear comments on the proposed 2017-18 Budget, the Capital Improvement plan and minor changes to several ordinances for the city of Houghton.

The Downtown Houghton Farmers Market is scheduled to open on June 20th and there are still a couple of spaces left for vendors.
