Houghton Looking To Add Fitness Stations Along Waterfront

The city of Houghton is looking to do some other improvements at the waterfront.

City Manager Eric Waara received permission from the Houghton City Council at their regular meeting Wednesday to submit a grant application to the Portage Health Foundation.

If awarded, the $15,000 grant would be used for additional fitness stations along the waterfront.

The city currently has three of these stations where people walking can stop and exercise before moving on to the next station.

The plan is to add another eight stations.

The city will also be adding 12 to 14 trash cans and three benches along the waterfront, using up to $10,000 from the budget.

The new cans and benches will be used to create a unified look with the lighting, banners and new recycling containers from Bridgeview Park to the Lakeshore Center.

The existing cans will be reused in other parts of the city.
