Houghton HS Teacher Named to State Council

A local teacher has been named to an influential state board.

Ruth Ryynanen, of Chassell, is an English, AP English, and theater teacher at Houghton High School. She’ll represent secondary education on the Governor’s Educator Advisory Council. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan, Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Michigan Technological University, and Master of Arts in English from Northern Michigan University. 

The Council reviews and makes recommendations regarding legislation and practices involving the state’s public education system.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment yesterday.
