Houghton High School Theater Class To Perform ‘Little Women’

The theater class of Houghton High School will be performing Little Women this weekend in the school’s auditorium.

The drama was adopted by Marisha Chamberlain from the novel by Louisa May Alcott and is directed by Houghton English teacher Ruth Ryynanen.  Performers include class students Hunter Bishop, Ilya Holden, and Ani Seigel.

Ilya talks about the theme of the play, “Little Women is basically the story of this family during the Civil War and all of the siblings are growing up and learning what it is to really be adults.”

The cast is made up of students from the theater class, including some from the Houghton High School Drama Club, and like Hunter, introduces the material to many of the students for the first time.  “It’s definitely coming-of-age and those are some of my favorite stories and I really didn’t know what Little Women was until now,” he said.

Little Women will be performed this Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 and Sunday afternoon at 2:30.  Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and will be available at the door.
