Houghton Expects More Cruisers, Doesn’t Know About Meijer, Isn’t Buying Fire Company

There could be more cruise passengers visiting the Copper Country in the future.

On the heels of news that Viking Cruise Line will include Houghton as a featured stop when it begins its Great Lakes cruises in 2022, City Manager Eric Waara told the council Wednesday night that Victory Cruise Lines wants to reserve berth space for 2021…

Victory’s ships have visited Houghton a few times in the past. Waara also told council members that Meijer will announce sometime in March which areas it plans to build stores that would open in 2022…

And Waara squelched rumors that the city has purchased the Continental Fire Company building. The nightclub is closing, and owners did reach out to see if the city might be interested in purchasing it as a new City Center, but no serious discussions have been held.
