Houghton County To Hire Worker To Help Recycle Cardboard

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners addressed some issues concerning the cardboard recycling unit at the Houghton County Transfer Station at their regular meeting Tuesday.

One of those concerns was the amount of cardboard that was simply being thrown away.

The board voted to hire a part-time employee that will assist with pulling cardboard from loads and making sure it gets into the bailer.

Since the grant for the recycling has expired, it’s hoped that this will increase the revenue generated from recycling the cardboard.

Commissioner Palosaari suggested that a small fee be charged to help cover the cost.

A small committee was appointed to look into this and other procedures at the transfer station.

In other business, the Houghton County Board of Commissioners approved the 2018 Master Plan

Commissioner Anton Pintar commended the Planning Commission for their work on the plan over the last two years.
