Houghton County has a sharp increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases.
This from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department.
As of today, Houghton County has 48 more positive cases, bringing their total to 137.
They also have 11 new probable cases, which are treated as positives and one recovery.
Gogebic County has two new positives and 11 recoveries.
Ontonagon County reported six recoveries.
The reason for the sharp increase in Houghton County can be traced back to the surveillance testing, being done at Michigan Tech.
They started baseline testing for returning students several weeks ago, and are continuing with surveillance testing.
Their goal is to test 600 students per week.
