Organizers of the Houghton County Fair are celebrating another successful event.
Carol Saari in the fair office said attendance Thursday and Friday approached, and may have exceeded, record levels. Attendance seemed about average Saturday and Sunday. Full attendance figures won’t be available until advance ticket sales are added into the totals this week.
This year’s livestock sale generated more than $135,000 for 34 local youth exhibitors. Animals sold included 10 beef steers, nine lambs and 16 hogs.
At the youth livestock shows…
- Jewel Laux earned the Grand Champion Market Beef award.
- Layna Strom claimed the Grand Champion Market Hog trophy.
- Jade Hupp took the Grand Champion Market Lamb honor.
- Aleah Simpson won the Youth Grand Champion Goat award.
