The Houghton County Board of Commissioners agreed to sell property at the fairgrounds in Hancock to the Houghton County Fair.
The purchase will protect the fair if for some reason the property would suddenly become unavailable down the road and the fair was forced to move.
Such a move would be devastating to the fair as they own many of the buildings on the fairgrounds but do not own the property itself.
Owning that property will also help the fairgrounds with applying for grants and bringing in additional entertainment.
Details of the sale were not disclosed at the regular meeting of the county board on Tuesday.
Commissioner Tom Tikkaken said he hopes the city of Hancock will take notice and work to acquire the Houghton County Arena.
