Houghton County Board to Address Courthouse Safety

The Houghton County Board of Commissioners is expected to take a step forward in establishing greater security at the historic courthouse building today.

At its regular meeting, commissioners will consider hiring U.P. Engineers and Architects to coordinate the bidding process and oversee renovations to the first floor entrance, district court, and magistrate’s office.

The board recently allocated funds from its American Rescue Plan Act revenues to provide greater security for employees and visitors.

The agenda also calls for discussion of a proposed child care initiative at the county’s Canal View care facility. Funds for that project were also recently approved out of the county’s ARPA money.

Today’s meeting begins at 4:00 in the commission chambers at the county building. To review the agenda, and see online access instructions, click here.
