The first meeting of the Houghton County Board of Commissioners for 2017 featured the swearing in of officers and the election of chair and vice chair.
No changes there—Al Koskela was reelected chair and Tim Palosaari is once again vice chair.
The Board also approved the meeting dates and times for 2017 and made numerous appointments to committees.
Of note–returning Commissioner Tom Tikkanen will replace Al Koskela on the Mental Health Board. Koskela had served on the board for several years.
On the Planning Commission, the board chose to reappoint Matt Huuki and appointed former Commissioner Eugene Londo to replace Barb Lewis, who did not seek reappointment after serving on the commission for some time.
The board agreed to send a letter of appreciation to Lewis
A policy governing the compensation Commissioners receive for attending meetings was also approved.
