Houghton city councilors will be getting a raise – but not right away.
Their per-meeting compensation will increase by $5.00 – to $75.00 for council members, and $105.00 for the mayor.
After no citizens addressed the issue at a public hearing, the commission approved the increase unanimously.
It’s the first pay raise for council members in 16 years.
Council members can be compensated for no more than four meetings or work session in any month.
The increase will not take effect until after the November election.
