Winter isn’t here yet, but the City of Houghton is preparing for it.
At last night’s meeting, the council was informed by City Manager Eric Waara that city crews have been working on road repairs and other projects to get ready for the winter season.
The council OK’d the closing of a pavement contract. The project was finished for less than anticipated and approximately $18,983 was directed toward additional paving work. Any additional paving work will have to be presented to the council.
Police Chief John Donnelly said that the Michigan Tech Bike Committee is working with the city to provide additional safety routes for bike riders.
The meeting was the final one for councilman Craig Kurtz, who will be retiring after 12 years on the council. Kurtz was thanked for his service.
