Houghton Considers Creating Redevelopment Ready District

The City of Houghton is considering establishing a new zoning district.

On Tuesday, the Planning Commission decided to recommend the creation a Redevelopment Ready District.

The R-4 zoning designation would be for areas where redevelopment could occur to renovate or replace existing buildings.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara said the two major points of the district would be increased density and a decreased parking requirement.

Public hearings were set for November 30th on the creation of the R-4 district and to apply the zoning to a portion of the city.

Affected lots are located on parts of Ruby, Emerald, Jasper, Vivian and East Houghton

The City Council is expected to vote on both resolutions following the public hearings.
