Today Houghton Community Broadcasting takes part in the “Radio Cares: Feeding America Emergency Radiothon.”
It’s a one day fundraiser, which benefits Feeding America, the largest hunger relief organization in the United States.
It supports 200 local food banks across the US, and all funds donated go directly to them.
Included in that relief network, is Houghton’s Western Upper Peninsula Food Bank.
Executive Director Jean La Berge said monetary donations work best, as that allows the Food Bank to purchase food in bulk, and keep food boxes consistent.
Feeding America established their COVID-19 Response Fund on March 13th, and since then, has distributed over $112 million and 94 million pounds of food, to 79 million Americans, facing hardship due to the virus.C
