Houghton City Boards Hear SmartZone Update

The Houghton city council, planning commission and Downtown Development Authority heard an update from MTEC SmartZone officials at a joint meeting last evening.

CEO David Rowe told the group that, since its founding 10 years ago, the SmartZone has assisted 97 companies, leading to 612 jobs. The organization has helped arrange $3.2 million in angel fund investments, $4.5 million in direct ownership investment, and $32 million in grant and vendor investment.

The evening also included discussion of the downtown pier and parking deck projects, but no new information was shared.
