Homelessness Coalition Looks To Improve Affordable Housing Options

The Hope House Homeless Shelter may not have gotten enough support to open up this winter, but the effort to raise awareness of homelessness in the area continues.

The Copper Country Homeless Prevention Coalition meets monthly at the Kangas Café in the Jutila Center in Hancock.

Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of every month from 11am to 1pm.

The Coalition says in addition to the need to provide emergency shelter during the winter, there is also a need for more affordable housing, citing a lack of apartments in the lower rent levels.

Property owners, developers and managers are invited to meet with homeless service providers on how they can help with the problem.
