With load limits in effect, construction season can’t be far off.
The Michigan Department of Transportation has laid out its projects for summer. Details are included in MDOT’s updated five-year plan.
Most of the work in our region will take place in Ontonagon County.
• M-26 will be resurfaced over 15 miles from Greenland Road to Twin Lakes Road.
• M-26 will be rebuilt over 5.5 miles from US-45 to the western junction with M-38.
• US-45 will be resurfaced over 6.6 miles from the Baltimore River to M-26.
• M-28 will be rebuilt from M-64 to Ewen.
In southern Houghton County, M-28 will be rebuilt over a 10-mile stretch from the Ontonagon County Line to Kitchie Road. Contractors will also finish up the US-41/College Avenue project in the city of Houghton.
In Baraga County, six miles of M-28 will be rebuilt from the Houghton/Baraga County Line to Johnson Road.
In Keweenaw County, work has already begun on replacing the Silver River bridge on M-26 between Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor. Traffic is being regulated by an automated signal.
