Heikinpäivä Events Begin Tomorrow with Special Film

The first of this year’s Heikinpäivä events will take place tomorrow.

The January Nordic Film Series feature is Sirkka: Past and Present.

The new film details the life of 99-year-old Sirkka Tuomi Holm, a life-long activist and longtime contributor to the locally-produced Finnish-American Reporter.

David Maki from the Reporter says there was a lot to chronicle…

This will be the first Copper Country showing of the film…

The movie was produced by the Finnish-American Heritage Center, working with local filmmaker Kristin Ojaniemi…

Showings will be at 2:00 and 6:00 tomorrow at the Finnish-American Heritage Center. There is no charge, but donations to support the series are appreciated.

Many more Heikinpäivä activities are scheduled through the month, with the tori, parade and games set for January 25th. Enrichment classes are still accepting registrations.
